More Fun With Genetic Genealogy

July 27, 2011

The orange segments are where my aunt and I match.

My maternal aunt got her Family Finder results and she pretty much tested like I did: Western European and North African with a bit more North African than me, but it’s interesting to note that Population Finder picked up her WE as solely French with no Spanish at all. I know genetically the two groups are nearly identical, but still…  odd.

Also, I asked Dr. McDonald analyze her raw data and he picked up 2.2% Native American and 1.1% Pacific Islander signatures. The Native American is obviously Taino but the Pacific Islander is most likely Filipino as that branch of my family is from Pinar del Rio, Cuba (originally called Nueva Filipinas).

So I seem to have gotten my small Taino  DNA from my mother’s side, but unfortunately I didn’t inherit any of the Filipino. At least not any that’s detectable with modern technology.
